Five truths about your calling
One:Your calling is not a job - it's a vibration. It's that little voice that whispers, "Wow, this is so cool!" It's that inner Yes! that tells you you're in the proximity of something that's lighting you up; a 'something' that’s aligned with the particular vibration of happiness you carry. Two:Calling doesn’t come from outside of you.Calling is not an assignment handed down from some 'job angel' in the clouds. There's no cosmic map or sacred contract that has you locked into the poor house or the White House. As long as you're in touch with that 'yes' - you can work your calling in a wellness center, a hospital or a steel and glass office building. The venue of your calling, like every other aspect of your earthly life, is up to you. That said, calling isn't always EASY.Three:Calling isn't always easy. Here's a post from Danielle Laporte about that.Four:You are already (always) responding to your calling.Calling is that 'vibe' you tune into when you're deciding what to eat, what to wear and which TV shows to watch; the vibe you've used to select - or reject - every friend, partner, class, book, sweater and job so far. It’s the vibe that’s rattling your cage right now, telling you, “There’s something better for me than this.”Feel for the things that resonate and move away from the things that don’t.Five:You cannot miss your calling.Even when it feels as if you’re missing it, you’re engaged with it, calculating the distance between it and you. You are always aware of your calling. As the great Martha Graham once said:
"There is a vitality, a life-force, an energy, a quickening that is translated through you into action and because there is only one of you in all of time, this expression is unique. And if you block it, it will never exist through any other medium and be lost. The world will not have it. It is not your business to determine how good it is nor how valuable nor how it compares with other expressions. It is your business to keep it yours clearly and directly, to keep the channel open. You do not even have to believe in yourself or your work. You have to keep open and aware directly to the urges that motivate you. Keep the channel open...."
Keep the channel open - feel for that 'vibe' and calling will emerge. Follow that vibe and you are following your call. Stay in alignment with that vibe (even when it's hard, even when your calling calls you up against the razor's edge of your own fear) and you'll be living on the path to your calling. In this way, you're holding the space for your particular 'vitality' - your gift, your offering - to take form in the world.
